Call for animated dance film proposals

Portland Green Cultural Projects and Animate Projects are developing a programme of activities for 20011/12 around animated dance film, including a curated touring programme of historical and new works.

We are looking for proposals for a new work to be co-commissioned as part of this programme, and artists, animators and filmmakers working in animated dance film are encouraged to submit ideas to the Portland Green Cultural Projects commissioning programme.

Please read the commissioning guidelines for Portland Green Cultural Projects' commissioning in dance for how and when to submit. The guidelines are downloadable at the bottom of this page. Please note that you should submit your initial idea by mid-July to allow time for feedback.

While the commissioning strand is open year-round with no application deadlines, the commissioning does work in tandem with public funding cycles. Consequently all applications to the commissioning fund for the current funding cycle will need to be made by 16 August 2010 for projects that can be delivered by 31 March 2011.

Call for Proposals: Rough Machine Commissions

Animate Projects is looking to commission three experimental works that explore the theme of the rough machine for its online magazine, APEngine.org and for iTunes.

In the spirit of APEngine, we’re looking for crafty provocations - antidotes to digital perfection.

We invite ideas from UK-based artists, animators and filmmakers who can craft an inventive, arresting and engagingly provocative work. We’re not looking for narrative, live action films; students aren’t eligible; and the proposal must be for a new work - not one that has already been started or already exists.

Each commission is £1,000, to include artist’s fee, all production costs and expenses.

To apply: simply email a proposal, no more than 200 words, noting the tools & processes that you would use, for a film that is around 1-3 minutes long, to machines@animateprojects.org. Please also include your contact details and 3 or 4 web links to examples of your moving image work.

The deadline for proposals is 27 August, 5pm. The finished films must be delivered in an uncompressed QuickTime file format by 20 October 2010. The films will premiere on APEngine.org and iTunes from November 2010.

 AnimateTV: suspended animation

We are very sorry to say that there will not be an AnimateTV Open Call for UK artists and animators this year. Channel 4’s arts commissioning is on hold, but we are pursuing other funding possibilities.

 General information

Please note that we only commission through partnered initiatives, and that we do not have a general fund. Apart from AnimateTV, our other commissioning is not through open submission.
