As part of the opening night festivities at Margate Rocks 08 on 2 May, Animate Projects presents a programme of artists’ films that explore, in a variety of ways, our relationship with the world we live in. The festival’s theme this year is art and ecology and the film programme presents the best of emerging British talent, DIY eco films and green filmmaking.
The Salvage programme includes several Animate commissions including Salvage by John Parry, a scavenger film, reclaiming and re-presenting the by-products of commercial animation production, plus other films that make us re-think about how we see the world, such as Proximity by Inger Lise Hansen and Magnetic Movie by Semiconductor.
Animate Projects, in partnership with RSA Arts & Ecology, has recently commissioned seven international artists to produce short films that address ecological emergencies. The films will be launched and available to view online in the autumn. For more information see the Stop. Watch. project page.
