Coastcards: short film commissions
- Silent Signal03.03.2015
We are delighted to announce that artists Susan Collins, Andrew Kötting and Kayla Parker & Stuart Moore have each been commissioned to make a short film, a ‘seaside postcard’ of sorts, in a Sea Change funded seaside town that they live in or nearby. Working with the respective local authority project leaders, they will celebrate the heritage of England’s seaside resorts by exploring the unexpectedness of the seaside and evoking a sense of place.
The Sea Change initiative aims to drive cultural regeneration in seaside resorts by funding inspiring, creative and innovative projects, bringing a sense of pride, enjoyment and celebration. As a capital grants programme Sea Change has already funded over 30 seaside locations across England, including Bridlington in East Yorkshire, Hastings in East Sussex and Teignmouth in Devon – the three places that will be celebrated through the Coastcards project.
The films will premiere at SeaScape, an international conference exploring culture as a regenerative force for coastal communities, on 2 October as part of a review of the Sea Change case studies. They will then be shown at animateprojects.org and will be downloadable through iTunes.
